For a while now I’ve been using a program called Stylizer as my app of choice for styling websites and I love it. Stylizer is a CSS editor with a difference. I’m completely sold on Stylizer. It’s the best thing since the internet was invented and has totally changed the way I work, for the better. As far as I am concerned it’s the best CSS editor by far.
Stylizer, described as an “exotic visual CSS editor,” enables real-time visual CSS editing – any updates in the code editor on the right are immediately seen in the browser window on the left. This in itself is a real bonus but there’s more…
There are some really neat features such as being able to work on-line on live sites and update the design in real-time via ftp. They’ve also integrated 9 different browsers to check your design in including, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8, and Firefox 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6.
There’s loads more features such as, powerful colour selection tools, eye dropper colour selector, CSS validation, rules, magnifying lens and much more.
I very often use open source software or freeware because free is great, but this program is really, really good and like it so much I actually paid for it! It really is that good and I can recommend it for both beginners and experts alike.
You can download a demo, so why not give Stylizer a try? I think you’ll like it.
Update: After doing a trawl around the web it would seem a lot of “web designers” turn into text snobs when dealling with style sheets and xHTML documents. You know the type, “all you need is text editor, blah, blah ,blah blah.” I suggest you just ignore them – they’re just trying to impress you with their suposed superior knowledge. A good CSS editor can be very useful and really improve productivity. Often they offer loads more features as well as just editing CSS.
A photo of the abbey at Whitby in Yorkshire taken on a recent holiday.
This view looks across the grave yard from the church. The weather was superb, very hot and not a drop of rain in sight: a change for England!
The photo isn’t great as the sun was in the wrong place to get good contrast but it’s still a nice view of this old ruined abbey.
Makes me wonder how the monks must have lived many years ago. I guess they would have to have worked hard just to feed themselves.
I’m pleased to announce that three more open source web templates are now available for download on the Free web Templates page.
First up is the “Langlang” template, which is a blue 3 column design with a central content area flanked on either side by a sidebar. The template is called Langland as it features an image of the coast of Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire, England. William Langland is the writer who is first credited with writing about the legend of Robin Hood in the 14th Century.
Next comes the “Rosenau” template which looks like a set of vertical pastel coloured tabbed dividers with plenty of alternative layouts. Dr Rosenau was the inventor of vertical filing systems in 1892, hence the name Rosenau for the template.
Finally, comes the “Friden” template which is a 2 column design with a sidebar on the right and the main content on the left. The template comes with a selection of colour graphics so that you can mix and match to suit your preferences. The template, somewhat randomly named after Carl Friden who’s company introduced the first fully transistorised calculator in 1963.
All templates are open source and released under a Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3 license. Previews and downloads are available on the Free Web Template page.
I’m please to announce the release of a new, and first, template here on ainsliejohnson.co.uk called “Cohen Blue”.
The template is a blue on white, 2 column template with a sidebar on the right. The template is named after Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, novelist and musician Leonard Cohen. OK, so the names not got a lot to do with template but it’s different and I doubt there are any other templates named after Leonard Cohen
For a preview and download check out the template on the Free Web Templates page.
Hello and a warm welcome to AinslieJohnson.co.uk
It’s been a while since I did any blogging, especially under my own name, but here goes…
So, what do I have planned?
Well first there’s going to be some blogging. I’m hoping we can have a good discussion about all sorts of things including music, technology, gadgets, web design, blogging and probably everything else I am interested in. Hey it is my personal blog after all
Then I shall release some super free, open source web templates. I may even try my hand at making some WordPress themes and who knows what else. Only time will tell.
Anyway, thanks for visiting. Stay tuned and please feel free to call again soon
